Bio - Jordan Shipley

Multi-instrumentalist Jordan Shipley’s stylistically diverse musical expertise has been cultivated by several performances and professional development activities around the globe. In 2013, Jordan completed a grant-funded residency in Lisbon, Portugal, which led to performances in several cities in both Portugal and neighboring Spain. In 2008, Jordan traveled to Brazil where he studied and performed Brazilian guitar styles, as well as cavaquinho (Brazilian-style ukulele), and mandolin.

Jordan studied guitar at the University of Missouri – Kansas City with renowned jazz guitarist Rod Fleeman, and classical guitarist Douglas Niedt. Since his studies at UMKC, Jordan has also sought out studies of Brazilian music under Kansas City percussionist Doug Auwarter and renowned Brazilian jazz educator Antonio Adolfo in Miami, FL.

Jordan aims to bring his passion for cultural exploration through music to audiences in Kansas City in his regular performances with current projects Mistura Fina (Brazilian popular music and folk), Guitarras Ibéricas and the greater Ensemble Ibérica (the music of Ibéria and former colonies), and Derin (music from Turkey, Mexico, and Brazil).
